Sanondaf UK's Statement on Coronavirus
Sars-CoV-2, a new strain of Coronavirus first identified in China in late 2019, has been present within the UK since early 2020.
Since this time, the Coronavirus pandemic has caused significant challenge to our lives, placing immense strain on our frontline services (healthcare, education etc.), and disrupting the previously enjoyed freedoms of our work, social and home environments.
Throughout the pandemic, Sanondaf has been working tirelessly: 7 days a week and at all hours, to provide total environment disinfection services for a wide range of clients and communities across the UK.
The recent MHRA approval of three separate vaccines (Pfizer/BioNTech, Oxford/AstraZeneca and Moderna) and planned vaccination roll-out has provided a much-needed ray of hope for the future. But for now, infection prevention and control measures must remain a critically important part of our lives.
As published by the Journal of Hospital Infection on 12th January 2021:
“There is mounting evidence to support the presence and transmissibility of SARS-CoV-2 through inhalation of airborne viruses.”
Total environmental disinfection, which eradicates viral particles from both surfaces and the atmosphere, is therefore an important weapon in the battle against Sars-CoV-2 transmission.
Sanondaf UK treatments are a total environment, airborne process, which utilises a unique broad-spectrum disinfectant solution – a stablished Hydrogen Peroxide formula. Our solution is authorised and registered for use in Europe by ECHA, registered as an authorised Biocide, passes all tests for viricidal activity and is highly regarded in Health Care & Research facilities.
FACTS about Sars-Cov-2, COVID-19, Coronavirus and disinfectants…
Sars-CoV-2 is an enveloped virus and a member of the Coronavirus family (like SARS, MERS, influenza, and the common cold).
Many products claim to be tested and proven to kill COVID-19 specifically. The first detail to clarify is that COVID-19 is the disease, not the virus. The second important point to consider is that (as far as we at Sanondaf UK are aware) commercial testing in the UK for the virucidal efficacy of ANY disinfection solution against SAR-CoV-2 is not yet available. Therefore, any products claiming to ‘kill’ Sars-CoV-2 (or COVID-19 even) are likely inaccurate and misleading. Current testing is carried out against surrogate coronaviruses. It is, therefore, accurate to state that disinfection solutions and treatments can, and do, kill Coronavirus. Our Sanondaf treatment process is completely effective against enveloped viruses.
Claims of ongoing protection….
Sanondaf UK do not make claims about ongoing protection for days and weeks after a treatment has been applied.
Not only is ongoing protection for the atmosphere in premises impossible with such a treatment but, in the 7 years we have operated in the UK, we have never been presented with sufficient evidence to support these claims. Indeed, UK Trading Affairs have taken a dim view of unsubstantiated disinfection treatment claims and demanded changes to marketing and product information.
Disinfectant product approvals – what does EN 14476 actually mean?
The standard that most solutions rely on is EN 14476:2013 and +A2:2019, These references relate to a test introduced in 2013, before Sars-CoV-2 existed and is a quantitative suspension test which involves particles being suspended in a large volume of disinfectant. This test rarely reflects real life conditions as disinfectants tend to be sprayed on and wiped off and is designed to apply to products in a medical setting where soiling levels will be far less than ordinary commercial settings. This test was updated in 2019 (July) which was 6 months prior to Sars-CoV-2 being identified. EN 14476:2013 and +A2:2019 simply allow a claim that a disinfectant product has viricidal activity.
To be confident in the factual efficacy of any disinfectant solution, independent scientific study data should be obtained.
